The Klamath Basin offers some of the very best birding on the West Coast. Bird watchers from around the nation join us each February for the Winter Wings Festival. During this week-long event, hundreds of birding enthusiasts "flock" to the area to observe our many fowl neighbors.

The Klamath Basin is renown as the location of the largest overwintering population of Bald Eagles in the United States. During the Winter Wings Festival, there is frequently a "Fly-out" as many of these magnificent birds set off for points north and mark the end of the long winter season. And then there's the International Migratory Bird Day.

The Klamath Basin Birding Trail is a key attraction. This trail was set up by the Klamath WingWatchers Organization. Klamath Wingwatchers is a local non-profit organization dedicated to public education regarding Klamath Basin wildlife and wetland habitat and their value as a natural resource through scientific, arts, and cultural means. Klamath Wingwatchers, Inc was the co-sponsor and co-producer of the Winter Wings Festival for 2005, 2006, and 2007. You can find out more about the festival at www.winterwingsfest.org. Wingwatchers also sponsors Pelicans On Parade, the Lake Ewauna Trail, the Klamath Basin Birding Trail, bird and child friendly booths at various community activities, watershed activities, etc.

We put together a GoogleMap marking all the key locations of the Klamath Basin Birding Trail that will help you navigate from wherever you are to here, and then around the trail as your whims carry you. We're not done yet, though... sorry... drop us a line to let us know if this is important to you and we'll try to bump it up the priority list!

If your looking for a unique birding adventure, contact Jim and Stephanie Carpenter at Birding & Boating. They offer several different accommodations, but key among them is a sailing adventure around Upper Klamath Lake noting birds and landmarks throughout the sail. Enjoy the water, the sun, the wind and the wildlife, and have a gourmet picnic thrown in to round out the deal! A slice of heaven delivered...
